I drove about an hour and half up to York and then after that drive under 30 mph the weird thump thump thump from the front end started again, so obviously it wasn't the drive side hub. It almost seems correlated to long, higher speed driving, then slowing down when I go under 30 when I notice it.

Reading JeepForum - all fingers point to hubs, maybe I should replace the passenger side as well, even though it feels like it's coming from the driver side?

What about brakes/rotors, although playing in the parking lot this morning it seemed to only happen going forward under 30mph and above 5, but not in reverse.

Any ideas?

Bill

Get a CJ then the loud thump will just be normal. If you turn up the radio it will go away.

Oh how true it is Karlvin! how true it is. My Chero sounds great to me...course the radio is louder than the noises and my CJ makes new sounds each time I drive it!

Bill---Could it be something as simple as a lop sided tire or unbalanced tire?

good point the cheapest and easiest thing to try would be rotating the tires see if that changes it any. it wont make it go away but should change it enough to let you know if that is whats causing it. look for uneven spots along the sidewall of the tires too could be a broken belt. also look to see if you can see any spots where it looks like the weights might have come off the rim.

I would also check the front driveshaft and the ujoints on the axle.. but a seperated belt in a tire can make a ton of noise too. Get Swampers, remove the carpet and the headliner, and the radio... then there are soo many noises you cant determine where they are coming from...

jeeze luda you must almost be at cj status in the noises and shakes department. if only you had the wind buffeting in your ears from a soft top that almost fits you would be there

I prefer the rumbling of the sheetmetal roof.... when the tailgate closes it sounds like an empty dumpster...
