SJ Cherokee exhaust
I have an 82 Cherokee with an AMC 360 and stock exhaust manifolds. I have already pulled out the rusted nasty exhaust all the way back and installed a Walker y pipe. The Walker y pipe ends as a 2.5" pipe. I want to go immediately to 3", no cat, 3" Flowmaster Super 44, and tailpipe.
Is it a bad idea to go from a 2.5" collector pipe to 3" the rest of the way back?

Re: SJ Cherokee exhaust
Not really. It shouldn't be enough to notice, other than the sound.
If you see me driving a Jeep, don't wave. It's not me.
Re: SJ Cherokee exhaust
you should use a muffler that has a 2.5" inlet and a 3" outlet

Re: SJ Cherokee exhaust
In did I should have. Since I've already ordered the 3" in 3" out, can I have an exhaustive shop weld in a reducer right before the muffler?
I figured I'll have a section of 2.5 after the y, where the cat would be, a reducer (or the opposite) to 3", and then the 3" muffler and tailpipe.
Good?

Re: SJ Cherokee exhaust
My Flowmaster was taking longer than expected to arrive so I looked it up on Amazon. I used an expired credit card to order. I gave this a lot of thought before reordering. I decided to just go with 2.5 all the way back. I ordered the same muffler in 2.5 and a Walker tailpipe. Should be much easier and cheaper this way. Now I just need to get a section of 2.5 from the Autoparts store to use as a "test pipe" where the cat used to be.

Re: SJ Cherokee exhaust
you can go larger towards then but not smaller.
If you start with 2.5 then you can end with 3.

Re: SJ Cherokee exhaust
You should be fine though Flowmaster exhaust can be really loud.
