Legal parts on a jeep

Post by thatguy_ » Sat Jul 27, 2013 1:55 pm

I planned on lifting my jeep 4 inches this week and than slowly work my way to the spyder comp front stinger and a custom rear stinger with tube flares. I had some concern with the legal matters on this mods. I live in the silver spring metro area and was wondering will i get pulled over non stop for having tube flares and stingers?

I don't think stingers are illegal unless you don't use them as intended.

Tube fenders aren't illegal either, but the tire tread has to be covered.

Stingers are not illegal, unless you get pulled over by the "why-in-the-hell-did-you-install-a-boner-bar-on-your-jeep" police. Then you're screwed.

Question wasn't if they are legal (they both are, with caveat of tread covered AND if they are obsessive front of tire covered 45 degrees from center of wheel) - It was will it increase risk of getting pulled over. IMHO, it will increase risk of being pulled over, especially if cop is a dick and OP is young.

That said... I have tube fenders that do NOT cover all tread, I'm an old dude, and I've never been pulled over for them OR given a citation for then when pulled over for another reason.

Depends entirely on the cop I suspect.

thanks guys, yeah i read up on it and found out the tread has to be covered and not sure if thats going to happen lol, i was looking at the smittybilt ones and they dont cover all of the tread. Also for the stinger ill probably go with the Poison Comp stinger thats 36" from base and idk if that will cause any issues. but thanks everyone i appreciate it

Boodyrider if it makes you feel any better I have gotten an actual ticket for having a tag light out too. But I think it was more or less because he thought he was getting me for drunk driving, and then once he realized I had not been drinking he was mad
