d44 Front Axle Swap?

Post by Lukipela » Sun Nov 24, 2013 12:00 pm

Any one swapped a pass side drop d44 into an xj on here? Just wondering what all would be involved besides a different t-case and new track bar mounts and such. Im thinking there would be driveshaft clearance issues, just wondering how bad it would be.

Also would need to re-do the exhaust.

From doing some research, it looks to be a big hassle. The motor is pushed to the passenger side to clear a driver side drop axle, so it would have to me moved. I would have to remake the exhaust, replace the t-case, and install all new brackets along with all the upgrades. Just too much work when a driver side drop d44 is so easy to find, install, and is so cheap.

Frosty did a pass drop D60 on a TJ, check with him on some of the issues he had.

I have a 77 ford low pinion d44 front sitting out back. No gear or hubs. Should have most of the other parts for it. I also have a d60 rear that could be sold with it
