Bumper Question

Post by 82jten » Sat Jan 18, 2014 6:13 pm

I've got a question for you guys, need some more expert advice that I can provide myself.

I plan on making a winch bumper for the J. I know I want the front face, winch and frame mounts to be 1/4". My question is would it be too heavy if I made the whole thing out of 1/4"?

I ask because I found a 4'x8' sheet of 1/4" for $100. and I feel that would be enough to build the entire bumper out of and enough to build an engine skid, and possibly some diff cover protection. and the price is right.

My opinion 1/4" will be far too heavy for the whole bumper. Use heavier where needed, lighter to keep from becoming a lowrider wherever possible.

Yeah I just emailed the guy I bought the plate for my skid from, I'm going to start by building a base structure out of what I need to be 1/4" and then I'm going to make a cardboard templates for the pieces I'm going to need of 3/16". I figure if I make a template for one side only, and order 2 of the templates it would be symmetrical.
