should the mayor be contacted for this event? He could bring his big scissors and there could be a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark this day in history AND get a half front page sized picture in the Frederick News Post with just a caption..

well tom you gotta remember i didn't start hanging out in frederick alot until after i bought the jeep. had i known you better i probably would have made you come with to look at it before i bought it and then we could have avoided this whole mess.

its ok man. not many people would check under jeep to verify that the transmission and transfer case match the engine, so long as the jeep runs and moves under its own power. Although many of us would its cool, people sell junk all the time under the disguise of a decent vehicle. the guys that did the engine swap after you bought it should have at least mentioned something to you even of they did their install and said here you go. Plus as your first jeep you are entitled to a learn from the mistakes made or gremlins found in the glove box. No offense to Tom but he wouldn't have been much help with looking at it since working on your Jeep is his first experience with 4x4. It takes someone who has been around them and knows what to look for to find these hidden things.

PS: I passed the test and will be leaving this hell hole of a state for MD in a few hours. So lets get that damn thing together and out of my garage. See you guys Saturday.

yeah but you were doing body work to the right? Engine and drive train is a different story. Not knocking you man just saying it would seriously take someone who know what trans and TC's came with different years and configurations to recognize what joe has. Surprising since Joe was messing with a Dana 300 and I thought he has already identified everything but I guess he was going with the assumption of what came with a 6cyl CJ7

the trans is a t-4 and t-case is a dana 300 and the engine is a 258. that much i knew before . but the original configuration was 4cyl 2.5l with t-4 and dana 300. also i knew. now heres the catch the t-4 was available for both 6cyl and 4cyl in different input configurations. that i knew as well. What i didn't know was that the PO just replaced the engine and not the trans mission. Also something else i didn't know was that all you had to do was replace the clutch to get around that. also on a side note the dana 300 comes with a 23 spline input shaft whether it's for a 4cyl or a 8 cyl. <-- AMC did get that right. but the t-4 is a light duty transmission in all configurations. which blows.

For some reason I also think the length of the input shaft for the T4 for a 4 banger is different for the 6 Cyl.

But I could be wrong.

So are you driving?

Not yet but the engine was pulled along with the trans and assembled outside of the jeep then place back in. So maybe tonight it will be fully back together and it still needs a starter so I will tow it back to Joe's parents house.
