I think it may have been a problem with my pump which broke those 3 bolts off the new one performed great last night and today going to work. A normal HMMWV sitts at 220 + but I am 190-200 average. My radiator is new and custom built 4 core for about 700+ HP. Your friends must have been a older radiator and the air may have dislodged some of the gunk in there. I refilled mine with nothing but fresh coolant this time because I picked up some dirt when I drained the system. But thank you for the ideas.

The new hydro boost brake system works great and stops on a dime now. I will have to modify the hood though since it pushes up on the hood a little and I don't want to break my plastic reservoir. The oil filter relocation kit was the wrong size and wouldn't cover the filter port fully at the engine.

NP...That engine bay is alot tighter than a HMMWV's also...probably about a foot on each side. Probably lost 8-10 inches on each side and that huge air louver on top of the hood...Looks to be at least 14" x 14". I'd throw some louvers on it if you see it get hot...

I am thinking a custom hood is in the "need" category at this point. between needing more space for the brake resv, and the suggested louvres.

I suggest no hood at all or a clear glass one like the one in Grease....

found two different style cowl induction hoods for YJs:

your basic style cowl induction hood:

Can't tell from the angle of the pic, but this one looks like it has forward-facing scoops.

lol, Nice hoods. I have been thinking about swapping a HMMWV scoop on to mine and actually put it on correctly. They have all been installed backwards for years because the are not forcing air in at all. The radiator sits at an angle and gets little air flow. The modification for the brake master cylinder is almost where its at now but higher so it would kind of look like the hump on a eagle talon. I just got back from driving to parkville from Reisterstown and on 695 it did great going there runing about 65+ at 200-210. On the way back I was in a hurry and I was pushing it a little harder so it was sitting at 220-225 so still in normal temps and going about 70-73. I grabbed a set of soft doors in good shape for 70 bucks. The scoop is a good idea guys I am still thinking of putting in thin flex fan to help move some air in the engine bay. what do you think.

I have a thin flex fan in my jeep now I want to take out...You can have it if you help take it out and pay for any radiator fluid I might need...I also have the temp controller for it bot not sure if it's removable from my radiator...If it comes out you can have it.

Thanks, I have a electric flex fan on the front of my radiator its the metal one that mounts to the engine I want to get. The performance shop refereed to it as a flex fan because its pretty thin and at different revolutions it pulls different amounts of air to match. Be careful removing yours though I have seen some damage from someone who was to eager at removing it.

It's up to you...It's a flex-a-lite push type fan...Sits on the outside of the engine so it's completely out of the way of the mechanical fan.

I think it's the syclone model...

Well I got the Diesel YJ started the other day. After working on the garage and installing some cabinets for the new workbench I decided to swap the starter which even though was new and only about a dozen starts but wasn't functioning. I swapped it with a used spare I have and took the battery from my truck. She cranked easily so there was noting wrong with my electrical system but it took a few minutes to get the fuel system primed but once done she roared to life and now turns over on the first crank.

Now its time to service all the fluids and of course give attention to the suspension so it can handle the power being given to it. I have some heavy duty parts from Ruff Stuff that will go on. I have run across a D60 and 14 Bolt rear that were temping to pickup but I think I need to build a purpose built trail rig if I am going to really beat up on it. I have put too much time into building this Jeep to destroy it but I will certainly enjoy it and run her on the trails.

I should mention the thing has been sitting since late summer 2011 when I was being sent back overseas, following the deployment I bought a house, got married and just recently expanded the family so busy just doesn't really cover it. Hope to get back into the swing of things and find a good balance between work and play.
