a yj top WILL fit on a tj, but not without a little modifying. I dont recall what needs to be modified but I know people have done it.

the year switch was 97-02 and 03-06 I THINK
but its minor differences. either one will work on the other. the wiring is different. but if your not concerned about the wiper/defrost/dome lights working it doesn't matter. also the early year tops have the large vertical pressure vents on the C-pillar behind the side glass. 03-06 do not. the vent was moved to the tailgate. so it you put an 03-06 top on a 97-02 there is no pressure vent at all, so you may have problems closing the doors tightly if the windows are closed.
I have been told the clamps for the header and the holes in the windshield frame are different sizes but I cannot confirm this.
I have a 97-02 style for my wife's 05. we dont have the wiring hooked up but the top itself fits just fine.
my revolving door of vehicles contines to spin.........
now I have a 2011 F150. 5.0L

Thank you! I was just wondering, my SIL, has an 06 with a soft top, and I was trying to help her with what fits and what doesn't.
