Yep. The big (dripping) leak on mine is around the diff cover, not enough to cause a problem, but enough that I know exactly where I've been parking. I have a brand new diff cover to install, since I beat the snot out of the original cover before I installed an engine skid. If I hadn't bent and scraped the cover up so badly I'd just reseal the old cover, but I didn't want to take a chance on not being able to get enough of the mating surface flattened properly. I'll use a healthy amount of red RTV and clean the surfaces extra well just to make sure I get a good seal.

It looks like the driver's side axle seal is also seeping a bit, but I'm not too worried about that. I'll fix it if I ever decide to have the CV joint faces machined or go with J.E. Reel axles.

You shouldn't have to worry about it a bit, because your Jeep's still under warranty. Take it in for a warranty repair, and if it's the diff cover seal that's leaking insist upon a new diff cover.

Dang, and I thought I drove a lot! How badly is it leaking, and have you checked the fluid level? If it's not dripping, but just seeping, I'd say leave it. If it's dripping then reseal the diff cover. I can write up instructions (it's a bit more work than the average front diff cover) after I've done mine, or host a mod day and I'll lend a hand.

I dont have any real experience with KJ's other then reading about them.

I have read this is a common problem. I also read that the KJ's aluminum differential center section is known to crack near the shaft input under severe stress.

Some folks add a diff collar to strengthen the area.

It should be an easy fix. Pinion seal should only be about $15-$20 I would guess.

Oh yeah, and stop driving in mud and sand, or it'll likely leak again. That's one of the reasons I'm not really concerned about fluid seeping out of the seal as long as the level isn't going down. I drive on the beach several times a year, so I'm bounce to end up with leaks.

Woo-hoo, triple posting to myself. For my benefit as much as anyone's, here's the info for the diff collars:

Stafford Manufacturing makes the proper size (no additional machining) -- 2-piece shaft collar, 3-9/16" bore, 5" OD, 7/8" wide.

They are available from http://kamandirect.com in steel (~$75), aluminium (~$83), and stainless ($150), plus shipping. Aluminum is probably the best best since the diff housing is aluminum.
