Wow, changed my mind....

Post by Iceweasle » Fri Jun 13, 2008 12:34 am

I used to think the Libbys were for chicks and homos, but damn! I've been reseaching what you can do with them as far as how they look and how they handle with mods. I'm seriously thinking about joining the Libby club.....Still keep the YJ too though of couse.....

The very few times I have actually taken my jeep anywhere but Annapolis Mall, I have followed a Libby.... Talk to ReneDave and JMM. They have some pretty sick Libbys. I think ReneDave is getting a huge 6'' lift for his. :o

KJs (at BEST) can do a high blue. They're overweight, too tall, and have IFS. They shouldn't even be called a Jeep.

Oh, don't worry Dan, I'll get ya back for the "jeep" crack. But yeah, high blues are the "safe" limit for my KJ with 2.5" (plus a bit) of lift, 30" AT tires and open on both axles. There's lots of off road vehicles that fit squarely in that category, though, including many Jeeps over the years. The drivetrain is fully Jeep too, with the only unfortunate choice being the aluminum diff housing on the front D30. I bought another TJ for the serious rock crawling, but other than that the Libby is a very capable off roader.

yea I crack on renedave about his libby but thats basically because I get cracked on alot about my XJ and shiot rolls downhill. but all in all the libby is deffinately blue trail rated with minor mods. but anything more than that and you are really gonna have to spend some serious cash and at that point is it really worth it considering how much that same amount of money could have done on a wrangler and what that wrangler would then be capable of.

as for the libby being overweight
it weighs about the same as a wrangler doesnt it. if so how is that overweight.

According to my research, the KJ was 800# more than a 4.0L TJ.

wow OK thats a good bit. I thought TJ's were heavy pigs because they are like 4000 lbs which is between 5-800lbs heavier than the XJ. that means the KJ isd almost 2.5 tons

Stock curb weight on a 4.0L TJ was around 3300#. By the time we add bigger tires, long arms, skids, etc, they hover around 4K.

I have been very pleased with the KJ performance so far. While I cannot take the doors off, it sure is nice to be able to crank up the AC for the ride home!
See ya!
