wheels and tires

Post by nattyboh » Sun Jan 11, 2009 2:57 pm

Will the 225/75-15 tires and wheels off my cherokee fit my girlfriends liby without any problems. i'm pretty sure the tire size is fine i was wondering if the 15" wheel will have problems with clearing the brakes or anything. theres a pic of the wheels if there are a diffrence on which wheels cherokees come with. thanx for any help

Yep, those 15" wheels will have problems clearing the brakes. There's a few steel 15" wheels with less backspacing than those (i.e. Crager Soft 8s) that will work, though. Are you just looking for a cheap replacement option, or have something else in mind?

Dave is correct - there are some 15"ers that will clear the disc rotors and the Soft8s may be one but I do not know for sure. Why are you trying to put 15s on there anyway? It is hard enough getting lift on a KJ and the wheel wells on these guys are pretty limiting as to how much tire you can get in there. What were you planning?

You could try to pull the spare and try it on the KJ and if it clears you win but 31s are typically what you can put on the KJ and that is with a good 2.5 lift. There are 4 and 6" lifts now available for the KJ but they are not cheap and require some drive train mods from what I have seen.

Stop trying to pretend you're not just a :pic32 :flipoff: - XJ and KJ share the 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern, not to mention rear axles (late model XJs, at least)..

can you take the rear disc set up off a libby and put it on an xj.or even better is the axle width the same. that make it easier to fab up rear coils.

Adapting the Libby coils, lower control arms, and tri-link to an XJ would be a lot of work, and I'm not sure what you'd gain from it. I can tell you what you wouldn't get, though - a decent set of rear disk brakes. Go with a set of ZJ rear disk brakes instead. They're much more readily available, and there's several pages on how to do the swap.

i just figured the spring purches would already be on the axle there would be know way i would do that much work and not run something way over the top. it would be criminal not to go with longer arms and atleast 20 or so inches of lift.lol. probly around 8 inches. when you go that big, using an 8.25 rear would just be stupid anyway
