Newbie Thinking of getting Liberty diesel

Post by diver110 » Sun Dec 27, 2009 2:43 am

I mostly like to get out into nature, as opposed to, say, climbing brick walls. How readily can one get "away from it all" on 4WD trails in the MD area (I live in Baltimore) and how suitable is a Liberty diesel (otherwise trail ready) for the area? Many thanks.

2.5" lift
meaty tires
detours backbone system up front with a winch
That would probably go anywhere you want to go and recover you if you get stuck.
Go have some fun. :)

The trails like GWNF and Green Ridge would be fine for your stock (sounds like) Liberty. There are links to the legal places to wheel in the FAQ section. Some of the easier trails up at Rausch Creek are fine for your set up also. Unfortunately there really isn't anything closer than 2 hours away that you can legally wheel.

Enjoy, Welcome a board.

Stock the KJ's biggest issue is the clearance both ground and in the wheel wells - you can spend a few bucks on some armor for the underside (highly recommended) and then a couple of inches worth of lift and a set of 31s on it and be doing all but the hardest trails out at RC.

Thanks for the feedback. In the interim, I have gotten a little nervous about the reliability of the CRD and am checking that out.
