ultimate light bulb - LIFX

Post by OrangeSpear » Tue Sep 18, 2012 10:22 am

Stumbled across this and thought i would share. There are many many applications for a light bulb like this.

The fact you can control this with your phone is amazing.

I think it would be wiser to come up with a separate base to control normal lights. That seems like it would be overly expensive.

I glanced over it on my phone while on an elevator with lots of folks. The pictures looked as though the base and bulb was one large piece.

$70 bucks for a test light? I would hope that comes with a warranty. I mean, if I get a year out of it I might not be upset. But every 3 or 4 CFL bulbs I have used burn out after 2 weeks. I would be soooo pissed if that happened with a $70 light. The concept is cool. I wont deny that. I would love to be able to turn my kid's light off like that time lapse. But I am not sure it is worth that much. But that is just me.

it has a 25 year guarantee.

you really should watch the video before jumping to conclusions. I think you will like all the possibilities of this product.
and its just starting out, so yes this will be when its the most $$$ to jump in on a new product.

Yes, I did watch the video. And I think it would be slick in bars, maybe as the kid's night light. But I am not sure I would not use them wide spread in my house. That is all.

if money suddenly become no issue... then yes i would put them all of the house. but ill do with one or 2 for now. until they go down in price.

for those that have a wife and they have an iphone, it has nice feel good feature. when she comes home and as she is walking up the lights would automatically come on.

^Yes. I would throw one in my kids room to see how it works. I think that I would it would be better have a ballast with the control. Spend a little more on a lamp and get cheaper bulbs. IMHO

While the cost is high, it seems like something that I would be interested in for my basement. Being able to control the lights while watching a movie, changing the color while listening to music and entertaining guests, or having the color match the room would be really cool.

I might just buy a few.
